“Could you put that on the side, and hold the blah blah, and serve that grilled instead of fried, and lightly spray the pan instead of cooking it in butter?”

If this sounds like a typical conversation you have with a waiter, then you have come to the right site!  You have a right to enjoy dining out and order a meal that you KNOW is healthy.

Company History

Founded by Karen M. Bobos M.S.ed in October 2011, the company officially launched in January 2012, Skinny Socials provides “the Skinny” on where the health-conscious should drink and dine ~ knowing there would be delicious, high-nutrient, low calorie, and low-fat options at these establishments.  Bobos, an exercise physiologist who also owns Kb Fitness Solutions, Inc. grew tired of telling clients to stop dining out because it was counteracting their successful outcomes in their fitness regimen. She reached out to Chicago restaurants to jump on the Skinny Bandwagon, and is now reaching out to other cities as well.

Statistics

As many as 15 million people have food allergies. Over two-thirds of US adults are overweight or obese (Body Mass Index ≥ 25). Approximately 40% of the population dines out at least once a week. According to the National Restaurant Association, there is $1.7 billion in sales in the restaurant industry on a typical day in 2012. A majority of adults in the United States consume alcohol, and these drinkers, on average, have four beverages per week, with beer the preferred choice, according to an annual Gallup survey. Boston Medical Center indicates that 45 million Americans are dieting each year and spend $33 billion on weight loss products. Skinny Socials to the Rescue!

Skinny Socials Certified Restaurants

Bobos’ team of health experts, including but not limited to registered dietitians and exercise physiologists, work with restaurants to become Skinny Socials Certified. The team carefully examines the menu to ensure there are a minimum of five dishes that are certifiable. Dishes may need to be tweaked or modified to meet the Skinny Socials standards, but as long as restaurants are accommodating, Skinny Socials are willing to work with them. The Skinny Socials Certified Menu is available on SkinnySocials.com as well as at the certified restaurants.  The menu not only highlights the healthy dishes, but also provides calories, fat, saturated fat, protein, fiber, carbohydrates, and additional suggestions. Some of the restaurants even provide sodium levels. All restaurants must be willing to accommodate any dietary restriction and some provide special menus, such as gluten-free dishes.

Skinny Socials Events

Skinny Socials events are held at Skinny Socials Certified Restaurants, inviting guests to come and sample their healthy dishes and low calorie cocktails. The typical party-goer consumes over 2000 calories at a cocktail party, which are more calories than one should have in an entire day. Skinny Socials events keep calories to a minimum and nutrients to a maximum.

Regardless of the kind of alcohol consumed, moderation remains the key. Excessive intakes of wine, beer, or distilled spirits will detrimentally affect your health. With this knowledge, we need to keep alcohol to a lower calorie count to assure people are not over-indulging. Skinny Socials requires cocktails to be around 120 calories, no more than 130 calories, to be considered to be Skinny Socials Certified. Restaurants that serve alcohol are required to have a minimum of three Skinny Socials Certified Cocktails.
